Communications Operations Command (E-911)

Police Dispatchers handle incoming 9-1-1 calls (e.g., police, alarm, fire) and radio dispatch for all units of the Sheriff’s Office; State’s Attorney’s Office Investigators; the Cook County Forest Preserve Police Department; plus 15 more agencies: Berekely, Blue Island, Dixmoor, Ford Heights, Golf, Harvey, Hometown, Indian Head Park, Lyons, Merrionette Park, Metra Police (commuter rail service across six counties into Wisconsin), Northlake, Palos Park, Park Ridge, and Phoenix.

Provides Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) for mobile police computers and reporting systems while maintaining radio towers throughout Cook County.

Infrastructure and Radio Interoperability
The Sheriff’s Police Communications Operations Command owns and operates almost two dozen crucial radio towers, providing resilient radio interoperability for 135 area law enforcement agencies whose approximately 12,000 radios would otherwise be incompatible during coordinated responses to natural disasters and terrorist attack. Funding for the Sheriff’s Interop Radio system is mainly provided by the federal Urban Area Security initiative (UASI) grant program.
