A Willow Springs man who was reported missing was safely located by Sheriff’s Police K9 Lula Belle and provided medical treatment, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
At around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, Steger Police requested the assistance of a Sheriff’s Office bloodhound to search for a 29-year-old man after his vehicle was found abandoned in the 22500 block of Cottage Grove Avenue. The man’s family told police that he suffers from mental illness and
was possibly suicidal.
Sheriff’s Police K9 Officer Anna Wilk and Lula Belle, a 7-year-old bloodhound, joined members of Steger Police Department and began a search for the missing man. Lula Belle was critical in locating the missing person within 20 minutes of arriving on scene. Officers recovered the missing person peacefully, and he was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
